The Rev. John Meyers grew up in western Pennsylvania. He received his Journeyman Cabinetmaker Certification before leaving for Crown College in Minnesota. After attending Crown, John became involved in church planting for the C&MA in Lyman, WY. In 1983, John married Janell (Carmon). They moved to Akron, Ohio, where John was director of a community transformation urban ministry. He first worked with Campus Living Association and later ventured out as Akron Youthquake Ministries. Through those 19 years, John was involved in building and operating a Christian boys’ ranch and home for urban youth; running a wood shop program for youth; and working in Akron Public Schools. In 2003, John and Janell, and their three children, moved to Michigan. John became a part of the Great Lakes District, serving as part-time assistant pastor at Fairlane Alliance Church for two years. Meanwhile, he began a C&MA sponsored urban church plant, Acts 29 Fellowship, in Hamtramck, MI, where he is now the lead pastor.
John’s interests:
- Loves Bible Quizzing, a life long passion, providing teens a fun and challenging opportunity to read and study the Bible. John has been involved on local, state, and national leadership levels with numerous quizzing organizations since the late 70s.
- Finds outdoor adventures especially peaceful, exciting, and challenging. “Outdoors”, he says, “is a great place to deal with truths in life. Nature never shows favoritism.” John has led nearly a hundred youth adventure trips.

- Favors orange Croc shoes, a trademark accessory and antifashion statement.
- Recently read The Jesus Creed by Scot McKnight, Christ Is All by David Bryant, Emerging Worship by Dan Kimball, Relentless Spirituality by Gary Keisling, and Desperate for His Presence by Rhonda Hughey.
